The scissors have been working hard at this year’s H.C. Andersen Festivals – and what a week it has been!
During the festival, four workshops for school children and one open workshop for all ages were scheduled, all under the headline: “Help The Waste Paper People Get New Friends!”.
First, several 4th‑grade classes created the most wonderful and imaginative Waste Paper People, and on Saturday it was primarily adults who threw themselves into paper, scissors, recycling, and creativity.
In this post, you can see the exhibition poster and some of the participants’ Waste Paper People. It makes me truly happy that participants took the scissors into their own hands and found their own personal expression.
The exhibition is open
All the new friends can now be experienced in the exhibition “The Waste Paper People Got New Friends” at Odense Main Library. Here they hang side by side with a few of my own Waste Paper People – and together they tell a story about friendship, community, recycling, and creativity.
The Waste Paper People speak up
Participants have also given words to the new Waste Paper People. Under each figure, you can read what they have on their minds: What are their names? What do they love? What are they not so fond of?
99 new friends
It has been a great experience to watch the exhibition wall grow throughout the week, reaching a total of 99 new friends. I hope you will stop by the library – which is always worth a visit – and see the exhibition, which can be enjoyed until August 31st. I guarantee joy and a smile on your face.
About The Waste Paper People
The Waste Paper People is a universe I have created, where discarded gift wrap is given new life as imaginative paper‑cut figures. The project highlights the potential of recycling and upcycling – but it is about more than waste and resources. It is about people, community, and the joy of creating something together. About experiencing how something that was almost nothing can gain new life – and become a friend.
